Business continuity at Colt: preparing for major sporting events

Published by Colt Technology Services on May 13, 2024

As Business Continuity Awareness Week (BCAW) kicks off, it’s a great time to look ahead to the summer and how Colt’s Business Continuity team comes together to prepare for major sporting events. These are events that take place in cities with many Colt people, customers and infrastructure and it means we need to be prepared for any eventuality and how these events will impact business as usual (BAU) processes.

During large sporting events, it’s unavoidable that specific areas will experience restricted access and in the lead up, civil works will be reduced as cities prepare for the event and an influx of visitors.

When it comes to preparing for such external events, the answer for us lies in meticulous planning and our wealth of experience. Having navigated the complexities of previous big events in other Colt cities across the globe, we find ourselves on familiar ground.

Drawing from lessons learned, we carefully create strategies to ensure seamless operations and minimal disruption for our customers. We start with our existing processes and our dedicated Business Continuity team looks into any improvements we can make or if we need to find a new way of working.

Our collaboration with local authorities is paramount to our preparation for major events. Through close communication and cooperation, we gain invaluable insight into areas that will face restrictions and the corresponding timelines.

Our proactive approach aims to minimise any potential disruptions, safeguarding our BAU services. However, we acknowledge that new installations or accessing our infrastructure during incidents may require additional time. The focus of the team is always on our people, customers and services to keep everyone safe and content.

The other key part for our team is how we keep customers, partners and our people informed about what’s going on and what they need to know. We work closely with our Communications team to do this with plenty of time to spare.

Whilst BCAW is only a week-long event, business continuity is something that is a focus all year around and a topic we take very seriously. So, if you’d like to learn more about what we do at Colt in this area and how we’ve earned our business continuity ISO certification, watch our new video:
