Why an agile digital platform is key to success in SAP migrations
Published by John Armenakas on April 4, 2024
In our latest cloud research report, we found that Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) are the focus areas for the next wave of cloud migration, closely followed by collaboration apps and HR tools. These projects have big budgets sitting behind them, with 33 percent of respondents setting aside between £251,000 and £500,000 to fund their next cloud move – no surprise given the mission critical nature of these applications.
This move is driven by a series of objectives, primarily technology evolution followed by improving application performance and driving cost reduction. Achieving these goals, and keeping mission critical applications running, leaves little room for error.
A new IDC InfoBrief, sponsored by Colt and SAP, has outlined the steps to take when it comes to migrating your SAP applications into the cloud, ensuring the business stays responsive and adaptable while hitting cloud goals.
The IDC InfoBrief, titled ‘De-risking your SAP migration to the cloud: How to meet the need for your organization to be responsive and adaptable,’ identifies that, for digital transformation to succeed, it needs an agile digital platform, built on intelligent ERP, cloud and connectivity. Without these three aspects working together, the project will be unlikely to meet its goals.
According to IDC, anyone planning or in the middle of working on an SAP migration should consider these four steps:
- Align vision and strategy with business objectives
- Build your business case, including connectivity from the outset
- Plan your execution strategy
- Deliver business value
The full IDC InfoBrief shows in more detail how each of these areas should be considered, along with the success criteria for migrating mission critical SAP applications to the cloud.
